County drop Blackpool from cricket schedule
LANCASHIRE CCC have dropped Stanley Park from their 2009 fixture list.
Blackpool CC officials believe this is the fall-out from the flooding at the venue last summer.
However, the club are not unduly distressed and are content to buy time to recover from the financial disaster caused by all four days of the County Championship match with Surrey being washed out in August.
Granted a Championship and a Twenty20 fixture, Liverpool will be the sole outground used next year while Blackpool pulls out all the stops to persuade the county to return in 2010.
Waterlogging proved an ongoing headache at Stanley Park and club chairman David Cresswell can understand Lancashire's reluctance to risk another flop.
Blackpool only discovered their fate when the first-class fixtures were issued yesterday and Cresswell said: "Lancashire haven't had any dialogue with us. I'm pretty sure flooding has played a major part in us not getting a game.
"The club aren't disappointed over the fact we haven't got a game. We're not trying to upset the county but it's disappointing there's been no contact from them."
Lancashire were contractually bound to offer Blackpool a game in 2008 under a three-year agreement, which has now expired.
The club have to pay Lancashire a staging fee, close to five figures, and Cresswell said they have got nowhere with a plea to have last summer's wasted cash reimbursed.
He added: "To be honest, we're still not happy with the state of our ground. The legacy from the flooding is that we can't get on with work on it.
"All this is the result of two wet summers. On three occasions last season there was a lake on the ground for upwards of a week
