Coid agrees new Pool deal
DANNY Coid is hoping for one of his best season in a Blackpool shirt after finally thrashing out the terms of a new contract and committing his future to the club.
Coid will make it 14 years not out at Bloomfield Road when he extends a stay that began when he joined the youth set-up as a fresh-faced secondary school pupil.
Now 27, Coid is much admired within the Seasiders dressing room and is determined to prove his worth to the new manager.
Coid, who will today put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Bloomfield Road, said: "I'm really pleased to be getting it all sorted and to be staying at the club.
"Everyone knows how much this place means to me.
"I'm not one of those lads who needs to go around kissing the badge – I've been at Blackpool since I was 14 years old and the club means everything to me, it's as simple as that.
"It will be exciting going back and having a new manager in charge with new ideas.
"Ian Holloway is someone everyone knows, and I'm looking forward to getting back to training and trying to impress him.
"It's nice that he wanted me to stay and it's now up to me to get my head down, work hard and try to nail down a place in the team.
"I want to have a really good season for the club and really enjoy my football, as well as helping Blackpool do as well as we possibly can in the Championship."
Holloway certainly rates Coid, making two phonecalls to the player to persaude him to stay.
The manager said: "I am delighted he has signed again for us because I have played and managed against him and I know he is a good player.
"There's always a risk when you let players go out of contract and there is a change of manager, so it has been a little bit difficult.
"We've let a few players go but Danny was one I definitely wanted to keep. All the staff felt the same.
"How can I describe him? He is loyal, a good player and he works hard.
"He reminds me of Paul Connolly, a lad I was in charge of at Plymouth, and I am pleased Danny will be in my Blackpool squad next season.
"I had a couple of chats with him on the phone and I can't wait to get to work with him."
Holloway has also promised that Coid will not be messed around.
In recent seasons he has been viewed as a utility player, who can plug a gap anywhere on the pitch, but Holloway has pledged to play him in one position only.
"I have told him where he is going to be playing and that is on the right," added the boss.
"He won't be playing at left- back and he is happy about that.
"The one thing that has been clear whenever I have spoken to him is that he cares for Blackpool and that he wants to be here, and that is good enough for me.
"I am confident that I can develop him as a player and that he will enjoy what we will do.
"He is a tremendous kid and he will do well for us."
