Claus tops Pool release list
CLAUS Jorgensen's Pool spell is set to come to an end today with the Seasiders due to announce which players they will release.
More than five weeks after the end of the season, Ian Holloway will finally confirm which players he is letting go – and Jorgensen is likely to be the highest profile casualty.
The Dane has been at the club during its best period in three decades, with Pool climbing from League One into the Championship.
Jorgensen, 33, played exactly 100 league games for the Tangerines after joining from Coventry in August 2006.
He was in the starting line-up at Wembley when Pool beat Yeovil to secure promotion in the League One play-off final.
His final appearance came on the last day of the last season at Swansea, when he came on as a late sub.
Other players expected to be released are Jermaine Wright, Marlon Broomes and Stuart Green, along with Belgian midfielder Francesco Carratta, who failed to break into the side after arriving from Royal Antwerp in January.
David Fox will also be officially released, although he has already agreed a three-year deal at Colchester.
Several big names – and potential Pool targets – have been released by other clubs.
James Scowcroft, a striker the Seasiders have repeatedly tried to sign over the last few months, has been given a free by Crystal Palace.
Jonathan Douglas (Leeds), Leroy Lita (Reading) and Ryan France (hull) are also out of contract at their clubs.
Peter Clarke has so far failed to agree a new deal with Southend and becomes a free agent in the next couple of weeks. He would relish a move back to Bloomfield Road, if Holloway wanted him.
Several former Pool players are looking for new clubs.
Tony Dinning (Chester City), Leam Richardson (Accrington Stanley), Ian Morris (Scunthorpe), Rhys Day (Aldershot), Phil Barnes (Grimsby), Matt Blinkhorn (Morecambe), Paul Edwards (Port Vale), Rhys Evans (Bradford) and Adrian Forbes (Millwall) are all out of contract.
John Murphy and Tony Caig are also without clubs and looking for deals.
Striker Dele Adebola looks certain to leave Bristol City – but whether he remains a Pool target is unknown.
Holloway is in the market for a new frontman but has yet to reveal who is on his wanted list.
