Champ Connor shows fighting spirit in clash of the Tae-tans

BLACKPOOL boy Connor Bailey stole the show when a major taekwondo competition came to town.

St Mary's School pupil Connor won the under-14s title, hardly a surprise given that he already holds the UK and Irish title in the same age group ... despite the fact that he's only 12 years old!

Connor lifted the trophy at the UK Taekwondo Development Council championships at Blackpool Sports Arena.

Connor was on home turf – he trains at the Stanley Park centre three times a week and is a member of the ILGI Taekwondo club there.

The championships were a huge success, attracting competitors from all over the country.

Craig Waddington, the top instructor at the Blackpool ILGI club, said: "Taekwondo is Britain's fastest growing martial art and our local competitors are ranked among the best in the country.

"It was good to have a major competition taking place at Stanley Park and it will be a regular event in Blackpool for years to come."

Eight-year-old Cameron Greg, a pupil at St Bernadette's Primary School, and Jordan Robins, 10, who attends Devonshire Road Primary School, also performed impressively.

Jack Willis, 16, was another to take a title, finishing first in his category.

The ILGI Club train three times a week at Blackpool Sports Centre, while there are other local groups based in Wyre, Fleetwood and Lytham St Annes.
