Canavan's blog: What a finish!
BLACKPOOL were a bit like singing star Susan Boyle – not pretty but ultimately they got the job done brilliantly.
Granted, this performance at Charlton might not have been Simon Cowell's cup of tea (he probably thinks The Valley is a boyband) but it was more than enough for Tony Parkes.
He was visibly thrilled to have salvaged a point from a game in which, for a long time, his side seemed destined to be second best.
This wasn't Pool at their best. This wasn't even Pool at average.
They weren't quite on their game throughout. But yet, thanks once again to that battling spirit, they recovered from a two-goal deficit for the second time in the space of a few days to secure parity.
And what a huge point it was, given events elsewhere in the division.
It was dramatic stuff, Lee Hughes (slightly puzzlingly left on the bench until two minutes from the end), like all good predators, finding space on the left of the area and lofting a beautifully arched shot beyond Rob Elliot.
Added to DJ Campbell's penalty, excellently won by the lad himself, it cancelled out Charlton's whirlwind two-goal start to the second half and meant a joyous ride home.
Funniest sight of the day was Alex Baptiste's dad walking from the away end towards the pitch to give his son a quick hug – but being dragged off and ejected by the stewards before he'd barely had the chance.
Aside from that, Charlton are a class act off the pitch, and it's sad that they find themselves in the predicament they are in.
They played very well and were unlucky not to get the points. Keep the majority of their team together and they should, like Leicester, bounce back at the first attempt.
Blackpool, meanwhile, should – barring disaster – continue to prove people wrong in the Championship next season.
