Canavan's blog: March madness blow for JLS fans
STEVE Canavan looks at the lighter side of life at Bloomfield Road.
- I FELT sorry for one young woman standing forlornly outside Bloomfield Road last weekend asking if anyone had a spare ticket.
She had travelled from Brighton the previous day, thrilled at the thought of a weekend which involved watching JLS (a music combo popular with young folk, so I'm told) on the Friday at the Empress Ballroom, then taking in Pool's match the following afternoon.
Alas, she arrived in tangerine scarf and hat unaware of the club's March Madness initiative which has resulted in all three of this month's games being sell-outs for home fans.
She was most despondent at the news, though on the bright side she told me: "JLS were fantastic, and even better than that, they were supported by Chipmunk". I won't lie. I'm in my 30s and have no idea what she was talking about.
Full credit to her for making the lengthy trek, I hope she made into the ground by hook or by crook.
- A VAGUELY interesting fact about last week's Blackpool-Ipswich game:
Pool have had more shots than any other Championship side this season.
Ipswich have had more shots on target than any other team in the division.
Fascinating, I know.
- STORY on a Newcastle United FC website this week. "With 13 games to go in the Championship, many fans are wondering just where the team will toast promotion. Here are the forthcoming fixtures..."
Wouldn't you just love it if Pool could get three points at St James Park and become the first team to win at Newcastle all season, completing the double over them in the process.
Fingers very tightly crossed.
- THE main source of entertainment during last week's game was totting up how many former Seasiders players were on the scoresheet elsewhere.
At a quick count there was Lee Hughes (for Notts County), Michael Flynn (Bradford), Roy O'Donovan (Hartlepool), Ben Thornley (AC Milan), Grant Holt (Norwich), Jay Thomas (Doncaster), Marlon Broomes (Tranmere), Wes Hoolahan (Norwich) and Steve Kabba (Burton Albion).
One of those was made up, see if you can spot which.
