Busy deadline day ahead for Pool

POOL'S race to sign DJ Campbell for £1.25m from Leicester will go right to the wire.

The clubs have agreed a fee but talks with the striker are ongoing and personal terms have yet to be agreed.

A deal for 19-year-old Wycombe winger Matt Phillips looks certain to happen, while the Seasiders continue to be linked with Sheffield Wednesday's Marcus Tudgay and James Vaughan at Everton.

They are also understood to be in advanced talks with an un-named French striker.

Ian Holloway has announced he wants at least half a dozen players in by the 6pm deadline – but given the short space of time remaining, that figure seems optimistic.

Secretary Matt Williams is at Bloomfield Road co-ordinating the hunt for players – and Holloway will have to hold his nerve as the deadline approaches.

"I honestly don't know if I'll be able to get the players I need here in time," said the boss.

"I need seven or eight marching in here and I just can't see it myself. But listen, I'll keep working to try and make it happen.

"The chairman has told me to keep my nerve. But I can't hold my nerve much longer because there isn't much longer left. Hopefully he will be proved right.

"But it's been frustrating so far. I thought we had three on Friday but unfortunately they all wriggled out of the bag.

"If the worst comes to the worst and we don't do the business we want, I'll just have to be careful and hopefully we won't get some shocking injuries."
