Brett makes sensational Pool return

SEASIDERS hero Brett Ormerod has made a sensational return to Bloomfield Road.

The Pool legend has signed until the end of the season and is set to make his debut at Crystal Palace - more than seven years after leaving the club for the Premier League.

The frontman, who blasted 45 goals in 105 appearances for the Seasiders before joining then top flight Southampton in a 1.75m big money move, has joined after quitting Preston.

Ormerod played a key role in helping Pool win promotion in 2001, scoring in the Division Three play-off final win over Leyton Orient, and went on to play for the Saints in the 2003 FA Cup Final defeat by Arsenal.

Now 32, Ormerod has battled back from two broken legs and was out of favour at Deepdale and spent loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Oldham last year.

His return will delight Pool fans who remember his goalscoring exploits for the club, although Ormerod hasn't hit the net since last season when on loan at Forest.

He will wear the number 33 shirt.

* YOUNGSTERS Dominic Merella and Ross Lloyd have been released by the Seasiders.

Merella's exit comes as a shock, just weeks after the teenager made his senior debut when he came on as a sustitute in the FA Cup defeat at Torquay.

The pair signed six month deals in the summer, but now face a search for another Football League club.
