Sharpstyle Amateur Boxing Club have started the season in a winning vein – and now they are looking forward to a big date next month.

They are the host club for an international match between England and Scotland at the Norbreck Castle Hotel on November 26.

Club members William James Birchall and Bobby Faulkner (pictured) were gold medal winners at the Chairman’s Cup in Liverpool, a two-day tournament for juniors and youths.

Sharpstyle had seven boxers entered for the Box Cup in Essex and were able to celebrate some excellent victories.

On day one Thomas Varey, Nelson Birchall, Reece Boswell, Danny Robb and Jake Abrol all booked their place in the finals after winning their bouts on points.

On day two Boswell picked up a silver medal, while Varey claimed gold in his bout.

Birchall lost on a split decision before national champion Robb won via points.

Adam Jones was another winner, while Abrol struck gold against James Orchard (Pinewood Star).

The Blackpool boxer made his intentions clear from the start, unloading heavy hooks against a very game opponent.

Orchard received a standing eight count in round two and took a further two more in the third session.

This forced the referee to stop the bout, Abrol taking the gold by a technical knockout.

Abrol picked up another trophy as he was awarded the best boxer of the tournament.

Head coach Andy Abrol said: “The level of boxing was first class with the country’s top clubs and national champions on show. For a small club in Blackpool that’s only starting the third season with so many medals is a huge achievement.”

Before the England v Scotland encounter, Sharpstyle host a show at Layton Institute on November 5.

Birchall and Jake Abrol will box for England on the Norbreck show against the Scots.

Andy Abrol, Jake’s father, will make his debut as an England coach, working with the corner with Ben Stewart.

Abrol Senior stated: “Father and son representing their country in our home town as a boxer and a coach is a dream come true.”

Tickets for the Norbreck show are available via 07723929380 or at the Sharpstyle HQ in in Bagot Street.
