BLACKPOOL boxer Brian Rose was understandably in jubilant mood after his victory over Vivian ‘Vicious’ Harris at the Winter Gardens on Friday night.
Rose registered his first knockout win as a professional with a right-hand that knocked Harris senseless – not bad for a ‘non-puncher’.
After an evening in which he celebrated his win, Rose tweeted: “Wow, who put that horseshoe in my glove last night?
Another man who could feel pretty pleased with himself is promoter Steve Wood, who staged the Winter Gardens show.
Twenty-four hours after Rose’s win, another fighter that he manages, Terry Flannigan, took the £32,000 winner’s cheque in the lightweight Prizefighter series in Liverpool, beating Gary Sykes in the decider.
Not the least spectacular moment at the Winter Gardens on Friday was Rose’s entrance to the ring to the musical accompaniment of musicians from the second battalion, the Duke of Lancaster regiment.
Among those in the crowd to see the fight action were Blackpool’s Angel Martinez and Seasiders assistant boss Steve Thompson.
