Boss won't stick boot into Fylde kickers
FYLDE director of rugby Mark Nelson spelled out the reasons for the club's crisis of confidence in the goalkicking department, which was apparent in the win over Hull Ionians.
Only one kick out of nine was successful, but Fylde were without both their injured front-line kickers Steve Nutt and Mike Waywell, while Neil Hunter could not kick on Saturday because of a thigh problem.
Nelson said: "Hunter should not really have played, so we were without our first three choices as kicker.
"It is a worry, but at the end of the day we had too much firepower for Hull Ionians.
"We got enough out of the game, but there was a dreadful period in the second halfl.
"We were lacklustre in the first half, though we were clearly the better side, and they were still in it at half-time.
"But we scored seven tries, so it could easily have been 50 with the goals.
"It was a good, solid home win, but with the teams above us (Caldy and Nuneaton) winning it is status quo in the league."
Fylde will be without young prop Kieran Brookes for Saturday's visit to Bradford and Bingley because he is representing Kirkham Grammar School in the Sedbergh 10s.
Brookes looks poised to link up with Premiership side Newcastle Falcons but that may not necessarily be the end of the powerful teenager's links with Fylde.
Nelson explained: "A move to Newcastle is in the pipeline. We should know more this week.
"We would hope that if ever he went on loan from Newcastle he would come to Fylde."
