Blackpool boxer to fight on Khan bill
BLACKPOOL boxer Mathew Ellis is to appear on the under-card of the Amir Khan/Marco Antonio Barrera bill at the MEN Arena next month.
He will fight Moscow's unbeaten Denis Lebedev in a cruiserwerweight match-up on March 14.
To prepare fully for that eight-rounder, Ellis has withdrawn from a scheduled bout at Newcastle tomorrow.
It will be Ellis' first fight since being blasted out by Enzo Maccarinelli inside two rounds in London in December.
Unbowed by that heavy reverse, Ellis said: "I only took the Maccarinelli fight at short notice. In hindsight, I probably should have turned it down but it was good money. For the fight with Lebedev, I will get plenty of time to prepare."
With that in mind, Ellis is to meet Maccarinelli again ... this time in the gym. He is to spar with the Welsh cruiser in the build-up to his big MEN Arena date.
