Southern set for Huddersfield move

Keith Southern

Keith Southern

KEITH Southern was today poised to complete a move to Huddersfield Town.

Terriers boss Simon Grayson is a long-time fan of 31-year-old Southern and the clubs are thought to have agreed a deal of around £300,000.

The midfielder was in Yorkshire yesterday for talks and is believed to have agreed a three-year contract.

Southern, Pool’s longest-serving player, is due a testimonial match against Everton on August 5 as a reward for 10 years’ service to the club.

The Gazette understands a deal has been struck enabling Southern to play the first and last 15 minutes of the game.

Southern, who had surgery to remove a tumour last season, is held in very high regard and the news is sure to be a blow to Pool’s players and supporters.

He joined Blackpool in August 2002 and has been a virtual ever-present under five managers – Steve McMahon, Colin Hendry, Grayson, Tony Parkes and Ian Holloway.

He was involved in three promotion campaigns in a Pool shirt and scored the winner in Blackpool’s first game back in the Championship in 2007.

Despite illness, he made 27 appearances for the Seasiders last season.
