Blackpool welcome the second-bottom Latics to Bloomfield Road with both sides looking for vital points in the League One relegation battle.

Philliskirk switched sides in the New Year, joining Pool from Oldham, and is only too aware of the qualities of both sides.

But with the table so tight towards the bottom, the 24-year-old isn’t expecting a classic.

“These games at the bottom aren’t footballing games,” he said.

“Sometimes you have to dig in and take your chances when they come”

The Seasiders go into the game on the back of Saturday’s poor 3-2 defeat at home to Shrewsbury – a shock after four games unbeaten.

And it’s clear they are hoping to put things right this evening. Philliskirk said: “It’s a good thing we have a game so soon.

“We have sulked over the weekend but this is an important game now.

“We have to go all guns blazing into the Oldham game.

“We need to start the game better, and if we do I’m sure we’ll get something from it.”

Philliskirk fired seven goals for Oldham before joining Blackpool for £75,000 last month, and he has fond memories of his time at Boundary Park.

“I had a good few years there, but what’s more important is that they are down the bottom with us,” he said.

“It’s important we get some points against them. They are a decent team with some decent players, so we can’t underestimate them.

“John Sheridan has gone back there and has got them organised.

“They have had some good results lately and have shown real improvement.”
