Blyth adds '˜wow' factor, says Blackpool boss

The Leicester loan striker is expected to make his debut off the bench against Bury at Bloomfield Road today (3pm).

He arrived on Monday as McDonald dipped into the transfer market looking for goals and the manager claims the 23-year-old has impressed.

The Pool boss said: “Everyone’s gone ‘wow’ over him in training. The first impressions are very good.

“We had him involved in training sessions as quickly as we could. He’s settled in well and his arrival has made everyone up their training, although it’s always been good.”

Blyth has not made a single appearance for the Premier League leaders since joining in 2012. Since then, the most successful of his five loans was at Burton last season, when he fired five goals in their League Two promotion campaign.

McDonald is convinced he can make an impact in Pool’s remaining eight games. He said: “Jacob’s got a good pedigree, though mostly at under-21 level. He’s scored some goals on loan and he couldn’t wait to get here. That was a really good sign for us.

“I spoke to (Leicester assistant manager) Steve Walsh and he said Jacob is a great lad who has a knack of scoring.

“That’s what we need. If Jacob can create some chances and score a few goals, then that will be fantastic.”

Blackpool will be without Jack Redshaw this afternoon after his red card in last weekend’s win at Crewe.

The Seasiders have plenty of options in attack but McDonald hopes his new man will add something different.

“He’s a target man and we’ll be playing off him as he’s good in the air,” he said.

“I was always going to try to bring a striker in, even before Jack’s sending-off. I felt we needed to add something in attack. We haven’t been scoring enough.”

McDonald had hoped to make another loan signing yesterday but failed to beat the 5pm deadline.

That makes Blyth the club’s last ever emergency loan. From next season, player movement between clubs will only be allowed during the summer and January transfer windows.
