Karl Oyston travelled to London yesterday to talk to the final man on his shortlist for the Blackpool manager’s job.
After a month-long quest, it is understood the Pool chairman has narrowed his search to his number one target.
Brian Flynn looked set to be appointed this time last week only for Oyston to make a last-minute U-turn.
The Gazette understands the chairman has since turned his attention to higher-profile managers, with Jose Riga, Billy Davies and Brian McDermott, who left Leeds last Friday, all being contacted.
Former Nottingham Forest and Preston boss Davies is no longer in the running and national media claims that former Pool defender Paul Hart has been in talks with the club are wide of the mark.
And after odds on Riga’s appointment tumbled to 1/3 this morning, it looks as though he’s set to win the race.
Belgian Riga would be a popular choice among Blackpool fans after the former Charlton boss topped a Gazette poll last week. Oyston does not wish to speak publicly about his search until it is completed, though the chairman hopes to make an appointment before flying out to Portugal for a Football League conference on Wednesday.
