Beth looks in as St Teresa's win in Lancs finals
ST TERESA'S Primary did Blackpool proud by winning the SPAR Lancashire Youth Games County Gymnastics finals in Accrington.
The Cleveleys school, who had won the right to represent Blackpool by triumphing in the local round, beat off runners up St Peter's of Heysham to clinch the county crown.
St Teresa's Joseph Holden was named top boy and Florence Meaney was joint-third in top girl category in the tournament at Hyndburn Sports Centre, attended by GB Olympian and gymnastics world champion Beth Tweddle.
This was a magnificent achievement by the school, which also triumphed at this month's Blackpool Gymnastics Festival, as they only have 42 pupils from whom to select their team of ten.
Teacher and gymnastics coach Sarah Oxley, who also runs Gym Mania
Gymnastics in Poulton ,said: "I am really proud of all the children, not only in their gymnastics but in their disposition, attitude and behaviour."
St Teresa's represented Blackpool at the Lancashire Youth Games two years ago – the first time they entered – and last year recorded first and second-place finishes in the borough tournament.
