Wesham tackle Cuerden test

Wesham Road Runners had a decent number of members running to stake their ground in the second fixture of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League at Cuerden Valley.

In the senior women’s race over 5.6K, Catherine Carrdus had a storming run to finish fourth W45 and 16th overall in 22:43.

Emma Pass ran well finishing 25th in 23:42. Tracey Hulme was 14th W45 and 64th overall in 25:58, with Jenn Thompson running well in 64th place with a time of 26:14 as 23rd W35.

Kath Hoyer was fifth W55 and 80th in 27:00 with Sharon Copper 82nd and 25th W35 in 27:06.

Bernadette Dickinson was 105th and 27th W45 in 29:23, a great effort, Tanya Barlow 114th and 30th W45 with 29:54, Diane Blagden 117th and 31st W45 in 30:23, Fran Hodskinson 122nd with 30:57 (34th W45).

As a team the first three were 10th and ‘B’ team 19th, the W35s were sixth, and W45 team third with a great show of strength.

Incorporated in the same race Dave Waywell won the race overall as first M70 in 29:30, a win by 43 seconds.

Simon Denye had a superb run in the senior men’s 9.9K over a small, medium and two large laps.

He pulled through strongly to finish 53rd and 11th M40 in 38:39 striding up the third and last ascents of the big hill with a good finish.

David Taylor ran well to finish 70th in 39:50, with Lee Barlow gaining strength on each lap to gain 83rd place with 40:48 (27th M40).

Jason Barlow faded mid-race but picked up on the last lap to fly into the finish with 42:02 for 111th and 40th M40.

Steve Myerscough finished 128th with 43:20, 45th M40, and John Collier was fifth M60 and 165th in 45:03.

Martin Bates had a good run in 215th place with 48:04, 47th M50, John Bertenshaw was 11th M60 in 49:26, 230th overall, Chris Moss 250th in 51:29, Ben Wrigley running well to come in 260th with 52:38.

The Wesham senior men were 15th team, the M40s were 7th, and the M50s 8th.

Jenny Salt ventured over to the picturesque town of Holmfirth for the last of the summer wine on a bright day in the 15 mile road race.

She finished 63rd in 2:08:44, 10th woman and third W40. Kath Hoyer was out again on Sunday in the challenging 7.5-mile Haworth Hobble, finishing 137th and second W55 in 1:26:26.

Steve Myerscough doubled up over the weekend with the undulating Accrington 10k on Sunday for a tough challenge.

He finished the 6.2 miles in 40:20 for 20th place and sixth M40. Wife Debbie was 203rd in 60:36, seventh W50.

James Mulvaney recorded the second fastest time at this week’s Lytham Hall parkrun with 17:16.

Also running were Nicola Unsworth (21:19), Jonathan Lawson (21:30), Carl Groome (22:31), Michaela Dempsey (23:55), Dave Young (24:23), Phil Leaver (24:43) and Debbie Bell (28:54).

Steve Myerscough ran 19:39 at Preston, ahead of Robert Brown (26:05) and George Flanagan (34:47).

David Taylor (18:31) was at Croxteth Hall, while Steven Gore (19:30) and Megan Gore (35:23) were in Jersey.
