Wesham's Taylor claims top-five finish

The Fishwick 5-Mile was the latest event in the Wesham Trail Championships on Bank Holiday Monday.

David Taylor placed fifth with a time of 31:16 on the undulating course in and out of the Ribble Valley towards the Tickled Trout.

Steven Gore was ninth in 33:23, having got ahead of Steve Myerscough who came in 10th with 34:23.

Helen Lawrenson was in a close finish with Sarah Ridehalgh, losing out by two seconds in clocking 36:08.

Jason Blagden was 20th in 37:05, leading in Graham Brock (27th, 43:27), Alan Taylor (28th, 43:36), Paul Eccles (29th, 43:39), Dave Young (34th, 46:42), Kerry Eccles (10th woman, 48:48), Debbie Myerscough (11th woman, 49:11), Paul Carter (41st, 50:58), Peter Cooke (43rd, 51:14) and Julie Rooney (44th, 55:46).

Saturday evening saw the first of this year’s Catforth 5K Series and, as in previous years, it was popular with Wesham members.

Steve Waterhouse was to the fore, finishing fourth in 17:28.

Steve Myerscough ran well, finishing 11th in 18:15 and just holding off Garry Barnett (12th, 18:19).

Simon Denye was 17th in 19:33, finishing ahead of Carl Groome (19th, 19:39), Jason Blagden (22nd, 19:52), Alan Hudson (27th, 20:59), Sean Murray (32nd, 21:44) and Ryan Azzopardi (35th, 22:15).

George Kennedy (22:28) and Roger Leadbeater (22:49) were 36th and 37th respectively, followed by Tracey Hulme (38th, 23:05), Kath Hoyer (39th, 23:20), Paul Eccles (40th, 24:03), Mark Dobson (41st, 24:07) and Dave Marsland (42nd, 24:17).

Kerry Eccles (25:03) came home 46th, followed by Diane Blagden (47th, 25:15), Robert Danson (50th, 26:12), Dave Waywell (54th, 27:40), Vicky Birkett (57th, 27:56), Caz Wadsworth (58th, 29:26), Julie Rooney (59th, 29:31), Sue Rigby (61st, 30:59), Angie Clark (64th, 37:35), Tina Pickervance (65th, 37:36) and Jackie Fox (66th, 38:30).

The second race in the Kendal 10K series was held at Levens on Wednesday.

Dave Taylor led the way for Wesham and came in third with a time of 37:35.

Paul Gregory was next to finish in 14th place with 40:41, Jen Salt was 83rd in 50:39, followed by Phil Leaver (84th, 51:02) and Chris Moss (99th, 53:39).

Wesham had four runners in the first Harrock Hill race on Wednesday.

Steve Myerscough finished 23rd with 39:55, Steven Gore was 27th in 40:25, Tony Boyle 122nd in 51:53and Debbie Myerscough 178th with 62:31.

Carmel Sullivan finished as 32nd woman in the Liverpool Half Marathon on Sunday in 1:34.49, finishing 353rd overall.

Vicky Gore finished 578th woman and 2,203rd overall in 1:56.03.

Jon McLeod ran the Blackpool Promenade 10 Miler, finishing 101st in 1:26.44. Karen Davies was 53rd woman and 154th overall in 1:34.55.

At Lytham Hall’s parkrun, Arran Galvin set a time of 19:36, Jason Blagden finished in 19:56 and Helen Lawrenson ran the second fastest woman’s time of 20:42.

Steve Myerscough kickstarted his weekend at the Preston run with 19:54.
