Wesham's Danson is streets ahead of the rest

Due to the clash with the Northern Road Relays there were only two Wesham runners in the Preston 10K.

Rob Danson made his mark with another win, completing the course in a fast 32:25, more than three minutes clear of his nearest challenger.

Paul Carter completed the 10K in 59:31 before going on to run the 5K in 30:53 and, for good measure, the 2K as well.

Wesham fielded two women’s teams in the Northern Athletics 4-Stage Road Relays at Sportcity in Manchester and three men’s teams in the 6-Stage.

Starting 10 minutes after the senior men’s race, the women set off on their four laps of 5.9km, two laps on a torturous course around the Etihad Stadium and on to the car parks.

The A side of Helen Lawrenson, Tracey Hulme, Gemma Owen and Carmel Sullivan finished 37th in a cumulative time of 1:26.32.

The B team, which comprised Bernadette Dickinson, Kerry Eccles, Anne Berry and Tanya Barlow, was 63rd in 1:44.57.

There was a 76th-placed finish for the men’s A team of Lee Barlow (21:19), Jason Barlow (20:34), David Taylor (19:31), Simon Denye (19:47), Steven Gore (21:32) and Peter Cruse (22:19).

The B team was made up of Garry Barnett (21:05), Carl Groome (22:26), Mick Edge (26:14), Alan Taylor (26:00), Elliott Costello (32:05) and Nigel Shepherd (18:17).

John Collier (22:06), Roger Leadbeater (25:40), Ben Wrigley (25:43), Stephen Browne (25:48), Ryan Azzopardi (25:48) and Chris Moss (19:02) made up the C team.

Wesham had three runners in this year’s Berlin Marathon.

Catherine Carrdus finished 271st woman and 34th W45 in a gun time of 3:21.09 and a chip time of 3:19.18.

John Bertenshaw finished 6,968th male and 75th M60 with a gun time of 3:37:12 and chip time of 3:35:09.

Simon Eaton clocked 3:38:48 chip time and 3:40:51 gun time, finishing 7,769th male and 1,400th M45.

Ugis Datavs completed the 102 miles of the Cotswold Way Century, an ultra distance event from Chipping Campden and taking in the best of the heights and the stunning valleys to end at Bath Abbey.

With a finishing target of inside 30 hours he completed the route in 26:37 for 12th.

Nicola Unsworth ran the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham on Sunday, finishing as sixth W45 and 626th in 1:41.27 on a rolling, undulating course.

Carmel Sullivan ran the last of the 2016 Lancaster 5K series on Saturday evening, finishing 32nd in 20:22, as well as sixth woman and first W50.

The Lytham Hall parkrun featured runs from Ben Wrigley (25:23), Finlay McCalman (26:22), Caz Cadsworth (30:56) and Debbie Bell (30:59).

The Preston parkrun saw Steve Myerscough run 19:46, finishing ahead of Nigel Shepherd (21:47), Dave Young (24:56), Robert Brown (25:22) and Debbie Myerscough (29:59).

Parkrun tourists Steven and Megan Gore travelled to Woodbank Park in Stockport to run 20:42 and 38:03 respectively.
