Wesham pair tackle a full English event

Wesham had two men running in the English Cross Country Championships in Nottingham on Saturday, over an undulating 12K course in Wollaton Park.

David Taylor finished 593rd in a time of 50:16 in a close bunch with a dozen finishers within a few seconds.

John Collier clocked a time of 59:49 to finish 1,297th in a big field of nearly 1,800 runners.

There were three Wesham runners in the Lostock 6 road race from the Barnstormers on Lostock Lane.

Martin Bates finished as third M60 and 68th overall in 41:01 over the undulating course.

Nigel Shepherd was the firsst M55 in 72nd place overall with 41:16.

Helen Lawrenson was close behind, coming in first W45, sixth woman and 77th overall in 41:41.

Paul Hetherington ran the Montane Trial 10 Daleman on Sunday and finished eighth in 45:58, as well as second M40.

Wesham had a few runners in the Stanley Park 10K which was split across Saturday and Sunday.

James Mulvany won the Saturday race in 34:50, with Sean Murray 65th in 46:03 on a day when there were 312 runners.

In the Sunday race Carmel Sullivan was the first Wesham finisher as second woman, first W50 and 31st overall in a time of 42:08.

Alan Hudson was just pipped to the post by nine seconds for lead M65 and finished 42nd overall with 43:42.

Nicola Unsworth was seventh woman, first W45 and 49th overall with 44:22 in a field of 356 runners.

Carl Groome was the fastest Wesham runner at the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning in damp conditions, running 20:30.

Phil Leaver recorded a time of 23:27, Fran Hodskinson 26:12, Diane Blagden 26:19 and Graham Cunliffe 26:24.

Debbie Bell finished in a time of 32:07, leading in Clive Berry (32:38) and Sue Rigby (32:42).

In the Preston parkrun Rob Danson was on good form to run the fastest time of the day with 15:57 with Steve Myerscough, back on home ground, posting a time of 20:08.

Nigel Shepherd ran 21:00, Robert Brown 25:06, Paul Carter 28:15 and James Danson 28:37.

Martin Bates ran the Worsley Woods parkrun in 21:50.

In the fifth Phoenix run in Runcorn, parkrun tourists Vicky Gore ran 26:39, Megan Gore 31:58 and Steven Gore 31:59.
