A record 320 runners lined up for the annual Stanley Park 10K run on a two-lap course around the park.
A battle royal developed from the outset, with Newham and Essex Beagles’ former international Ian Grime and Rossendale Harrier Chris Fell going head to head until the final 400m, in which Grime struck to win in 32mins, 21secs, with Fell seven seconds behind.
Local runner Robert Danson of Wesham Road Runners took third spot with 34.56.
Evergreen local veteran Paul Muller, running for Horwich RMI, was the second-fastest over-50 veteran in 35.56.
The ladies’ race was won in a course record time of 39.07 by Kathryn Chapman of Bishop Stortford, from Denbigh North Wales harrier Emma Collins (41.00).
