Prize performers pick up awards

The main event for Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC members last week was the annual presentation at the Hilton Hotel.

The awards were made by Alf Meakin – who competed at the Tokyo Olympics and won relay medals at the European and British Empire Games – as well as senior coach, Stan Taylor, and club president, Howard Henshaw.

The main award, the Quayle Trophy for the most outstanding athlete, was awarded to Katy Wyper.

She also picked up the Gerard Williams Trophy and the Senior Lady Track & Field award.

The runners-up trophy to the Quayle, the Large Langen Hesson, was awarded to George Fox and the Small Langen Trophy to Lucy Mansfield.

Emily Japp collected the Pendleton for best female middle distance runner, Club Road Running Trophy, as well as runner-up lady to Katy Wyper in the T&F and Cross Country Senior Lady Champion award.

The Senior Men’s T&F went to Brent Starkie and Daniel Kearney, the Under-20 Men’s to Edward Ralph and Alex Obiorah, while the Under-20 Women’s award went to Ash Colvin and Annie Bradshaw.

The best jumps award, the Centenary Trophy, was awarded to Declan O’Hara and the best throws award, the Bob Hope Trophy, went to Dave Turner.

The President’s Trophy was awarded for the second year to Annie Bradshaw and the Cocker Trophy to Tom Godwin.

The Fell and Trail Running Trophies were both won by Peter Singleton and the Road Running Trophies went to Bev Wright and John Wright, who also won the Cross Country award.

The outstanding team performance, the Alf Tysoe Team Trophy, went to the track and field squad who won the Division 2WC.

The two Meritorious awards for outstanding service to the club went to Laura Lawler and Nick Hume.

The Tickle family – Michelle, Simon, Jack and Holly – won the Family Commitment Trophy.

It was a very quiet week on the competitive front for BWFAC members.

At the Lytham Hall parkrun Andy Woodward was third, Lucy and Michelle Tickle 34th and 35th (23:48), Debbie Terras 61st (26:41) and Howard Henshaw 119th (31:34).

Athletes of the Month for October were Jack Tickle and Danielle Whipp.
