BWFAC sprinter Katy Wypes the floor with the rest

Almost 60 Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC members competed in the first Mid Lancs League track and field meeting of the season at the Stanley Park Arena.

Katy Wyper won the senior women’s 100m, crossing the line more than 10 metres ahead of her nearest challenger.

Gabrielle Jones was second in the 200m and Bethany Towers third over 400m, while Nia Rutter was second in the shot put and fourth in the javelin.

Susan Ball was third in the javelin and discus as well as second in the hammer.

Jon Rutter returned to competition after a break of several years for second place in the triple jump, seventh in the javelin and a time of 13.7s for the 100m.

Phil Ellershaw was second in the 100m and Brent Starkie third in the 400m, while Luke Halstead won the long jump with Darren Tremble seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Syd Bashforth was ninth in the shot put, sixth in the discus and third in the hammer.

The Loughborough Students BUCS Trials & Open saw Katy Wyper (12.18s and 25.14s) in the 100m and 200m, while T37 athlete George Fox ran 13.41s and 26.42s.

BWFAC finished third with 398 points in the first fixture of the Youth Development League (Upper).

The Cake Race was held at Diggle near Saddleworth with Laura Lawler (200th, 1:47.15) leading the way, followed by Simon Scarr (205th, 1:47,41), Alan Wilkinson (220th, 1:51:52), Jeff Wright (247th, 2:01:48) and Peter Gibson (278th, 2:18:59).

Jeff Wright ran the Wray Scarecrow 10K, finishing 127th in 59:02, while Michelle Tickle set a PB of 21:11 at the Avenham Park 5K.

A former BWFAC athlete, Tracy Barlow, now of Thames Valley Harriers, was third British woman at the London Marathon in 2:30.42, earning selection for the World Championship Marathon.

The Blackpool parkrun at Stanley Park saw Michelle Tickle (21:34) finish 16th and second lady.

She finished ahead of Simon Tickle (18th, 21:39), Jeff Wilson (36th, 23:18), Ellen McLachlan (42nd, 23:32), Alison Titterington (58th, 24:31) and David Heaton (158th, 33:11).

At Lytham Hall, Paul Sparrow (19:30, PB) was sixth, followed by Dexter Sparrow (ninth, 20:01), Rick Pinches (64th, 23:56) and Howard Henshaw (157th, 30:26, PB).
