BWFAC help celebrate a happy birthday

Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde members took part as the Lytham Hall parkrun celebrated their first birthday.

Event director, Kirsten Burnett of Lytham St Anne’s RR Club, thanked the many volunteers that have enabled the parkrun to run regularly each Saturday morning.

There were several awards including one presented to Michelle Tickle, who has run 28 times over the last year at Lytham Hall, and was also the leading lady on the parkrun points competition.

The first Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC runner was Lucy Tickle, who celebrated with a course PB of 21:08 in 21st.

She was closely followed by Daniel Matthews (25th, 21:11) and Peter Singleton (26th, 21:12).

Lucy’s mum, Michelle also posted a course PB of 21:14 in 27th, ahead of Simon Tickle (55th, 23:34), Rick Pinches (59th, 23:48), Alan Smart (102nd, 26:49), Kate Chandler (153rd, 29:51) and Howard Henshaw (174th, 31:49).

Several members of Bob Massey’s Couch to 5Km beginners group also took part, led in by Kevin Davies (194th, 31:49), Katharine Davies (198th, 34:37), as well as Jason and Mariangela Fielden together with support from Victoria Talbot and Kirsty Holland.

Two BWFAC members travelled to La Santa on the island of Lanzarote for La Santa Running Challenge.

For Derek Crane it was his 24th visit for this competition.

His results were: 10K 50:31; 13K Ridge Run 1:15.57; 5K Beach Run 28:56 and 21K Trans Island race 1:57.53.

That made a total time of 4:33:16 and gave him a final position of 125th.

Three days later both Crane and Bob Massey ran in the 5K road race, finishing seventh with 25:09 and ninth with 29:19 respectively.

The main local race was Guys 10 Mile race was won by Robert Affleck of Preston Harriers in 54:11.

The first BWFAC finisher was Jeff Wilson (119th, 76:16), followed by Ellen McLachlan (175th, 84:11) and Peter Gibson (178th, 84: 55).

The December monthly Handicap only attracted four runners.

Nick Hume was first to finish the 3.73 mile route in 25:23, followed by Graham Davies (25:48), Michaela Dempsey (29:23) and Tony Croft (34:07).
