BWFAC athletes team up for relay day

The main running event locally was the Northern Road Relays held at Stanley Park.

In the ladies’ race, teams of six ran four stages of 5.2K and two stages of 9.5K, and in the men’s race, teams of 12 ran eight stages of 5.2K and four of 9.5K.

BWFAC fielded a strong ladies’ team, led out by Laura Gilderdale (9.5K, 41:18), with Emily Japp (17:44) running the day’s second fastest ladies short stage, followed by Laura Gowland (5.2K, 19:33), Bev Wright (9.5K, 41:25), Stasia Bligh (5.2K, 22:24) and Jess Wright (5.2K, 20:41), with the team finishing 10th.

The first ladies team home was Rotherham Harriers, while BWFAC’s B team of Laura Lawler (9.5K, 45:28), Becky Rogers (5.2K, 23:23), Kirsty Holland (5.2K, 26:09), Karen Dunford (9.5K, 46:07), Alison Titterington (5.2K, 25:24) and Debbie Terrace (9.5K, 28:09) was 41st.

The men’s race was close with less than a minute covering the first three teams of Sale Harriers, Liverpool Harriers and Salford Harriers.

The BWFAC team of Liam Craine (9.5K, 36:02), Darren Tremble (5.2K, 19:58), James Unsworth (9.5K, 35:38), Andrew Simm (5.2K, 19:58), Andrew Woodward (9.5K, 36:58), Luke Minns (5.2K, 16:39), James Greenaway (9.5K, 34:11), Nick Hume (5.2K, 21:53), Tony Terras (5.2K, 19:01), Rick Pinches (5.2K, 24:58), Alan Wilkinson (5.2K, 25:06) and Sean Kenny (5.2K, 19:22) was 48th.

The inaugural Northern Athletics 5K Under-17 and 15 races saw George Robinson (19:22) 47th in the Under-17s’ event and Danielle Whipp (22:12) 25th in the Under-15 girls’ race.

Bob Massey took on the 50K Canalathon along the Rochdale Canal and finished 167th in 7:45:01.

T37 athlete George Fox has started the track and field season in good form with 8.20s for 60m and 12.82s for 100m at theMidlands Open Series meeting in Birmingham.

At the Lytham Hall parkrun, Michelle Tickle and husband Simon had course PBs of 20:38 and 21:08 respectively. Also running were Lucy Tickle (23:41), Gordon Ballentyne (26:16) and Hailey Ballentyne (31:02).

At Blackpool, Brent Starkie posted a course PB of 20:04 and led in Paul Beech (20:35), Dexter Sparrow (21:08), Ted Romney (21:13), Peter Gibson (23:43), David Twizell (26:16), Malcolm Beech (27:03, PB), Howard Henshaw (32:18, PB), David Heaton and Niall Coxey (53:01).
