Arnold's cup of joy
Arnold School's Under-15B team won through to the semi-finals of the Fylde & Wyre Year 10 Cricket Cup with an eight-wicket win over Millfield A.
Millfield won the toss and opted to bat first.
Ben Mortimer opened with a maiden and then Wesley Crowther had Daniel Edwards caught superbly by Jacob Reid in just the second over.
Millfield's no.3, Jack Northorp, then batted exceptionally well as he smashed boundaries to all parts of the field before retiring on 35 not out.
After 10 overs Millfield had reached 42-3 after Arnold's Alex Fowler removed Adams and James Kidner had Clarke expertly caught by Crowther.
Arnold continued to bowl well and put Millfield under pressure.
Crowther continued to impress as he struck twice in one over. He clean bowled both Micheal Barrett and Fahem Chowdhuri with Millfield on 58-5 and then David Mitchell had Daniel Cann superbly caught by Alex Fowler.
Ben Redman hit some late fine blows to advance Millfield's score but Crowther took his fourth wicket, when Richard Everingham was bowled.
Crowther was the pick of the Blackpool school's bowlers as he finished with figures of 4-15.
Arnold used eight bowlers, with Mortimer only conceding six runs in his four overs. Millfield finished on 83-7 after 20 overs.
In reply, Arnold scored at a rapid rate and in the first two overs Mortimer and Jacob Read has smashed 24 runs. After five overs they had raced to 48-0 until Mortimer was bowled by Ross Adams for 18.
Reid retired on 35 not out but Tom Jepson continued the impressive run rate and James Aird guided Arnold to 85-2.
They will face Arnold will now play either Lytham HS or St Bedes School in the last four.
*Arnold's U14B enjoyed a profitable week in the Fylde & Wyre Cricket League as they beat the A teams of St Bede's and St Aidan's on consecutive days.
St Bede's were all out for 111 as Alex Evans took a stunning 4-4 and then Tom Hammond (25) and Oli McPheeley (29) helped Arnold score 116-3 to win by seven wickets.
The good batting continued in the St Aidan's match as Arnold struck out to amass 161-1, with Jor Roscoe and Louis Mottley in great form. St Aidans chased well but were eventually all out for 101 as Jonathan Adams took 3-13.
In the Year 8 Fylde & Wyre League, Arnold Under-13B got their campaign off to a good start with a fine win over St Aidan's A.
Ben Cheston scored a superb 28 not out in Arnold's 133-4. St Aidan's were all out for 77 as Arnold won by 56 runs. Mohammed Patel, Andrew Cowburn, Sam Walton, Chris Bottomley and Tom Eastwood all bowled very well.
Arnold's Year 8s continued their fine form with two narrow wins over Hutton GS.
The Under-13A won by 11 runs in a high-scoring twenty20 match. Arnold scored 144-2, with Alex Naylor scoring 46 and Richard Whiteside a magnificent 74 not out.
Good bowling by Mitchell Bolus and Peter Thompson helped check Hutton's run rate as the Preston school finished on 133-8.
The U13B won an epic by just two runs. 23 from Declan Humphries helped Arnold score 104-9 in their 20 overs.
Hutton required six runs in the last over to win the match but Charlie McLaine took the last Hutton wicket as the visitors were all out for 102. McLaine took 4-7 in a tremendous spell of bowling.
Arnold Under-12A lost a low-scoring match to Kirkham GS by 25 runs. The bowlers dominated as Kirkham were all out for 83, with Elliot Fackey taking three wickets. Whalley then took three too as Arnold were all out for 58.
The B match was also close as Kirkham won by five runs, bowling well to defend a total of 75.
