UPDATE: Hundreds of homes affected by power cut

More than 1,600 of homes in Poulton were left without electricity following a power cut earlier this morning.

Electricity North West confirmed the outage happened at 6.20am, when families would have been waking up for school and work.

Traffic lights were also affected, according to reports.

A spokesman for the electricity board said: “An underground cable fault caused the loss of power to 1,663 customers in Poulton-le-Fylde yesterday morning at 6.20am.

“We automatically restored power to 752 customers from our control room within five minutes and engineers arrived onsite and restored the remaining 911 customers by 7.43am.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and if customers would like any further information they can contact us 24/7 on 0800 195 4141.”
