Massive jellyfish spotted on Blackpool beach

Gazette reader Jeremy Ankers snapped this picture of a giant jelly fish he found on the beach at South Shore on Sunday morning.

Mr Ankers was out walking with his son at 11.30am when he came across the sea creature near Starr Gate.

He said: “I was out walking with my son Dexter collecting shells when we came across it.

“I decided to Google it and came across a story about the lions man jellyfish which had washed up in Devon.”

However, marine experts believe the animal is more likely to be the barrel jellyfish which is a common sight in the Irish Sea once the weather warms up.

Over the last few years large numbers of the jellyfish have been spotted on the beaches of the Fylde Coast attracted by warmer sea temperatures.
