Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations are set for a spot of moonlighting.
Some of the star light attractions are set to brighten up part of Salford in December.
It is part of Lightwaves 2016, running from December 9 to 18 which aims to showcase the best in outdoor light exhibitions and digital technology.
Blackpool is set to supply Dr Who themed Illuminations for the event at Media City Salford Quays and will also collaborate on a new digital display called Heart Beat.
The Illuminations team is working with Quartier de Spectaculars of Montreal to create a series of art installations using mixed lighting media to create the symbol of a heart.
From one angle it is an animated 3D heartbeat pulsing through the sculpture. From another angle, the lights join to form a heart. For the heart to appear spectators are encouraged to make a connection of love, or friendship, by joining hands in front of the sculpture; human touch reveals the heart. Once the connection is lost the heart breaks into fragments again.
A spokesman from Quays Culture said: “At 10km long and using over one million bulbs the Blackpool Illuminations are an awesome spectacle. Quays Culture will be showcasing items from Blackpool’s light collection, which reflect the location of MediaCityUK, home to the BBC, including Dr Who Daleks, Phone Boxes, and Spacemen.”
