An amateur footballer from Bispham helped the British Army secure the bragging rights in an annual battle of the services.

Lance Corporal Luke Noble, 25, won a penalty in Army’s 2-1 win over the RAF in the first of three matches to determine the winner of the Constantinople Cup.

The Army overcame the RAF with a late goal to win the opening tie 2-1, with Luke winning a penalty in the first half to draw the game level, before the last gasp winner.

He then scored the Army’s second goal in a 4-0 win over the Navy in the second of the tri-series games.

The third game, between the RAF and Navy at Shrewsbury Town, is now effectively a dead rubber after Luke’s heroics.

Luke serves in the Army with the Royal Signals and has played for AFC Blackpool, Thornton Cleveleys and Boars Head Thistle.
