A cardiac staff nurse at Blackpool Victoria Hospital has been hailed star baker after he donated a number of top quality treats to a charity cake sale.
Janry Somcio, who works in the Cardiac Intensive Therapy Unit, only started baking a year ago, but delivered eight cakes to colleagues who ran a baking competition and cake sale to raise money in support of a team of cyclists who took part in a Coast to Coast charity cycle.
His collection of sweet treats included chocolate cakes and cupcakes, brownies and a pineapple upside down cake.
The whole lot, he says, took him a couple of days to bake after work.
Janry, 47, said: “Baking is something I started doing just to relieve stress, and when my colleagues asked if I could bake something for their cake sale of course I said yes.
“All the cakes I saw being sold on the day looked really nice, so I was surprised that I had been picked as Star Baker.
“I was just happy to have taken part and share my baking skills.”
Janry, who has a 20-year-old daughter and 12-year- old son and lives in Blackpool, said he got his inspiration and recipes from the television, books and websites.
He added: “It was a real team effort to help raise as much money as we could for the cycle team. It’s all for good causes.”
The cakes he baked were sold at Blackpool Victoria Hospital ahead of a cardiac team charity cycle which took place last month from the east coast to the west coast in aid of three charities – Blue Skies Hospitals Fund’s Heart of Gold Charitable Fund, Prostate Cancer UK and Unicef’s Children of Syria appeal.
To date the Team has raised £3,750.
