LIFESAVERS starring in a TV documentary have finally been able to reveal their wedding plans – after a year of secrecy.

Mandy Jenkinson and Paul Atherton – two paramedics who have featured in Channel 4’s 999 What’s Your Emergency? – have worked together for 13 years and began their relationship eight years ago after a Christmas party.

But during the last episode, viewers saw Paul get down on one knee and pop the question to his longtime partner in one of the show’s lighter moments.

Now the scene – filmed last summer – is out it means the Blackpool couple can reveal all to their family and friends. Mandy, 53, of Reads Avenue, Blackpool, said: “I was a bit taken aback by it and sometimes my emotions go out the window.

“It was as good a place as any to do it because we’ve worked together for such a long time.

“We’ve had to keep it from everyone for 12 months and it’s been difficult, especially with our close friends.”

Paul, 46, added: “I’ve asked her on a regular basis and we had talked about it. I thought if I was going to do it I would do it in front of 2.5m people.

“I spoke to the cameraman about what I wanted to do and he was the only one who knew. I felt quite calm even though the cameras were on, but it was a relief when I heard her say yes.”

The programme filmed the couple in their ambulance as they attended a series of domestic violence calls and both agreed they were pleased with how the show turned out.

Mandy added: “I know it doesn’t show Blackpool in the best light but people have to realise it focuses on the people who are working with emergencies.

“Every town and city has some problems.”
