WITHOUT the Illuminations, Blackpool would be dead in the water.

WITHOUT the Illuminations, Blackpool would be dead in the water.

The lights are a business that has made money on an international level, and they are why people come to the town, and, yes, this year they do lack a little from other years. So what can be done?

All the ideas I have heard and read have merit, but I feel one has never really been discussed or researched.

I ask myself, who are the lights for? The answer simply is, the thousands and thousands of individuals who flock to see them.

Why on earth can’t they become part of the lights, how difficult would it be to market the idea of, “see yourself or loved one in lights”.

This could be celebrating an anniversary, birthday, exam congratulations, newborn, achievements, or just plain old love.

Presented as a package with an illuminated graphic, (probably no more than an illuminated pvc light box) mounted on one of the very many lampposts and a nicely presented photograph to mark the occasion.

This could go further and be more elaborate, depending on how much was to be spent.

Everyone likes a bit of fame, and what a good reason to come to the Illuminations.
