Have your say

THIS coming week I will be performing in the Whittaker Dance and Drama Centre’s Diamond Show, ‘World At Your Feet’, at the Grand Theatre.

I have attended the centre since I was three years old, and was taught my first ever dance steps by Beryl Whittaker, the school’s founder.

She opened the centre 60 years ago, on February 11 1952, and dedicated the rest of her life to dance and sharing her love for the arts.

A passion for dance was instilled in me when my mother took me to see one of the famous Whittaker shows as a child. She tells me that I was on the edge of my seat throughout the show, eyes wide and gleaming as I took in the bright lights, the music and the hundreds of beautiful, glittering costumes. Shortly after this, she took me to my first dance lesson at the centre, and I literally haven’t stopped dancing since.

Now, performing in my 11th Whittaker show, I hope to instil that same passion into other youngsters in the area. With Riverdance and tap spectaculars, beautiful ballets and some fantastic musical numbers, there really is something for everyone. And with a cast 180-strong, ranging from three to 79 years of age, it just goes to show you’re never too young (or too old) to dance!

The show runs from February 10 to 12, meaning we will actually be performing on the 60th anniversary. Come along and join in the celebrations. We promise to dazzle and entertain you with our wide variety of song and dance routines, bright smiles and fabulous feet.

ALL credit to The Gazette and Blackpool Airport for organising the Travel and Leisure Exhibition so excellently.

By comparison with past years, staging it at the new venue was a huge plus. The fact that it was an airport gave the occasion a real holiday feel.

Unfortunately, it was a pity the airport authorities couldn’t promote the facility in the way other companies promoted themselves, which was the object of the exercise, after all.

Interested in flying to Belfast, I asked a representative on the information desk about prices. She told me I could find the fares online or at a travel agent. Asked if she could give me a rough idea, she said they were on the computer system, but that she was too busy to look. This flippant approach won’t put me off using the airport again, but others could be.
