THOUSANDS of children entered into the sporting spirit of the occasion to ensure the 2011 Blackpool Youth Games were as successful as ever.
The event got off to a record-breaking start, with a mass hula-hoop session which qualified for the Guinness Book of Records.
And the record books were rewritten with outstanding performances in many events over six days of superb competition.
Coun. Graham Cain, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Tourism and Culture, said: “ I’m delighted that so many children and young people took part in Blackpool Youth Games, particularly as the event is linked to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
“This year we were lucky with the weather and thousands of children enjoyed getting healthy in the fresh air.
“I hope that these young people continue their sporting efforts and take part in the many activities we have planned in the summer holidays.”
As all the pictures over the next four pages show, Blackpool schoolchildren are great sports when it comes to the Games!
