Women rescued in sea drama

HM Coastguard

HM Coastguard

LIFESAVERS were called out twice in the space of an hour on Friday night when two women were found injured.

Coastguard teams from Blackpool, Lytham and St Annes were called to South Pier at 8.50pm when a woman was reported to be in the water.

It is not known how the woman, believed to be in her early 20s, came to be in the sea, but she was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment after being rescued.

The same emergency crews were called to the sea wall opposite the Hilton Hotel in North Shore, at 9.50pm when a 19-year-old woman was found on dry land at the base of the wall.

She also needed hospital treatment for her injuries.
