A MOTHER was left badly injured after being punched in a terrifying robbery while out walking her dog.

The 25-year-old, from Cleveleys, was walking along the Promenade path close to the Norbreck Castle Hotel when she was attacked by a passer-by on Saturday.

The woman was punched and had her handbag stolen as she walked along the path at about 8.30pm.

PC Steve Higgs, from Blackpool Police’s robbery team, said: “The man has banged into her and tried to take her handbag off her.

“She has managed to hold on and he has then punched her to her right eye. She screamed and has fallen to the floor, and then he has grabbed her handbag and run off.

“She was out on her own so she’s shaken up about it. It was a random attack.”

The mother-of-two suffered a badly bruised eye, swelling, and a possible fractured cheekbone in the attack.

At the time, she was taking her brown Staffie dog to a friend’s house in Gynn Square, ahead of a night out with friends.

PC Higgs said the route – which is popular with cyclists and dog-walkers – is one the woman took regularly and is familiar with.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may heard the woman’s screams or seen her attacker to come forward.

The attacker is white, unshaven, with gaunt features and a long nose. He was wearing black sweatpants and a black jumper with the hood up.

PC Higgs added: “The man took her bag – which was black leather with a single flower on it – and made off in the direction of the tram tracks at Cleveleys.

“I would appeal for anybody who has seen or heard the incident or seen anyone matching that description, or running from the scene, to get in touch.”
