EYEBROWS were raised at the ballot box as one Blackpool constituent made a naked election day protest.

Sandra Ellis, 35, of Horsebridge Road, Grange Park, stripped off outside Horsebridge Community Centre, after council staff would not allow her dog –11-year-old collie Lady – into the polling station.

“There’s nobody who could look after my dog while I’m inside - animals have got to have rights as well,” the former chef said.

Council staff attempted to cover Miss Ellis with a coat, but she flung it off and continued her protest.

Police were called and she was arrested on suspicion of drunk and disorderly behaviour.

She was ordered to pay a fine of up to £80.

A member of staff at the polling station, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s a general rule that all animals are not allowed in unless they are a guide dog or a support dog.”
