A woman was asked to drive to Kirkham Prison and pick up her brother who had absconded from the jail.

Layla Johnson’s car was later stopped by police after an alert went out that five prisoners had fled from the open prison.

Johnson, 28, of Pimlott Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to carrying passengers in a dangerous manner by overloading the car and driving without insurance.

She was fined £180, ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge and had six motoring penalty points put in her driving licence by Blackpool magistrates.

Chrissie Hunt, prosecuting, said police got a tip-off a car was carrying five prisoners who had walked out of HMP Kirkham on July 19.

Johnson told magistrates she was asked to pick up her brother who had absconded from Kirkham Prison.
