A vicious attack in Blackpool town centre left a woman unconscious in the street.

Detectives say the 24-year-old victim was attacked during a night out to celebrate her birthday.

The woman, from Accrington, was visiting with friends when the attack took place on Talbot Road at the weekend.

Police believe she was punched in the face repeatedly by a man, who they say is known to her, before being knocked to the ground and losing consciousness.

The incident happened at around 10.30pm on Saturday, close to Ma Kellys.

Det Sgt Simon Gray, of Blackpool Police, said: “We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and some who intervened prior to our arrival at the scene.

“I would urge those witnesses to come forward and tell us what you saw to assist us with our enquiries.”

A 29-year-old man from Accrington was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until August 17 pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log number 1712 of June 27.
