Newton Bluecoat Church of England School could be nurturing some Wimbledon stars of the future.

Four pupils from the Newton-with-Scales primaryh school won a tournament to represent Fylde in the Lancashire Youth Games.

The children, all aged nine, have held regular 8am sessions with tennis coach Julian Wilson.

The talented quartet are Ellie Singleton, Savannah Stevens, Oliver Martin and Scott Ramsbottom, and headteacher Jim Bird is thrilled by their achievement.

He said: “The children have been coming in early to work on their tennis and they are so excited about representing Fylde.

“Julian Wilson has been helping the children and their dedication has clearly paid off. The children won a trophy and can’t wait to start the next tournament.”

Ten Fylde schools competed at St Annes Tennis Club but it is the Newton Bluecoat who will go on to represent their area in the county-wide event at South Ribble Tennis Club.
