PLANS are coming together to create a new flag for villagers to be proud of.
Hot off the heals of St Annes Town Council’s decision to create a town flag, the residents of Staining are currently working on their own identity for their home.
And they’ve even had local schoolchildren coming up with design ideas for the local emblem.
The man behind the flag plan, Staining Parish Councillor Keith Shuck, said: “We’d been thinking about something like this for a while, but St Annes council prompted me into action.
“We currently have people working on a design, which is likely to incorporate the village church, the windmill and the Plough Pub believe it or not, though this will be represented as the constellation The Plough.
“We’re just getting people to work on their ideas, then we’re going to go for it.”
Some of the people who have been coming up with ideas for the flag’s design are pupils at Staining Primary School.
They submitted their drawings, and the best were praised by Coun Shuck during a school assembly.
One the design has been agreed upon, it needs to be approved by the flag institute. The flag can then be registered and made, and the council will consider where to place a flagpole.
Coun Shuck added: “It’s just about celebrating the pride we have in the parish.
“The school has its own flag, and we have the Union Flag, but it would be nice to have our own.
“There aren’t many councils in this area that have their own flags.”
The St Annes flag was approved last year and has been made.
The Town Council is currently waiting for permission from Fylde Council over where a flagpole may be placed.
