FEARS have been raised a developer could be targeting a Fylde village.
Surveys have been conducted on land at the edge of Staining by Jones Homes Fylde and Coun John Singleton fears a bid could be in the offing to build hundreds of new homes on the land.
The site is adjacent to Jones Homes’ new 28-property The Heathers development on Chain Lane and – although the firm has denied it is planning to submit a fresh planning application - Coun Singleton is so concerned he has demanded a meeting with bosses.
He said: “It’s reported they are going to be building 300 houses there as a continuation of the development.
“Part of that land is outside of the village settlement boundary so they would have to extend that and I don’t think there’s a need for 300 homes in Staining.
“The school certainly can’t cope with that number of extra residents.”
The village’s current population is around 1,400, and Coun Singleton is worried any new development could destroy the close-knit community spirit.
He added: “I’ve asked for a meeting with the architect to try to get some more detailed information.
“My instinct is to resist any further development and local residents will not be happy about it.
“It takes away from the village atmosphere if you bring another 300 people in and it would almost double the size of the village.
“I don’t make planning decisions – we have a planning committee – but I am not happy about extending the village.”
John Roocroft, from Jones Homes, confirmed the survey had taken place but said: “We have no plans to put an application in for 300 homes.
“There have been some surveys but there is nothing concrete.”
