The night sky over Blackpool was lit up in dazzling delight at the launch of the World Fireworks Championships.
Ireland was the first to show off its colourful display, which attracted hundreds of people to the town’s North Pier on Friday night just one week after the Illuminations were switched on.
Despite the weather, the show got off to a cracking start as people who had travelled as far as South Africa described it as “amazing”.
Next week China takes to the skies in the fireworks contest.
