Not just a pretty face!
And Cleveleys resident Vickie Martin is out to prove it.
The 24-year-old recently celebrated scooping the prestigious title of Miss Fylde Coast Galaxy 2014/15.
Now she will go on to represent the Fylde coast in the final to become Miss Galaxy England.
And she can’t wait to get started on raising money for The Christie, the contest’s chosen charity and her chosen good causes, Brian House Children’s Hospice and Donna’s Dream House, in Blackpool – which provides holidays for disabled and terminally ill youngsters.
Vickie, who works for Nestle, said: “I chose the two charities as I wanted to do something to benefit local good causes.
“And I love children. So I wanted to help charities which look after children.
“I recently visited Donna’s Dream House and met Len. I’m so glad I did.
“It really allowed me to see just how much good work they do and how many children they help.
“It pushed me on to try to raise as much money as I can.
“I’m in the process of planning various events at the moment.
“I’ll be doing a skydive for The Christie in December.
“And I’m putting together some Halloween goody bags ready to drop off at Brian House and Donna’s Dream House at the end of this month.”
Vickie has been taking part in beauty contests for the last three years.
She has competed in several local pageants, including Miss Blackpool and Miss Fylde Coast.
She said: “A lot of my friends take part in beauty pageants too and I really enjoy it.
“I like the atmosphere, I like the build-up, I like getting to dress up.
“I was pretty confident anyway, but it has boosted my confidence.
“I feel I have grown as a person from it over the last few years.
“The contests are really friendly, everyone supports each other.
“I’ve made friends who I am really close to, and will be friends for life.”
When she’s not busy with work or taking part in pageants, Vickie enjoys going out for meals with friends, doing modelling at events and photoshoots – and snowboarding!
She is now busy preparing for the Miss Galaxy England finals, which will take place in February, in Chorley.
