Veteran charity man says ‘goodbye’

Fundraiser Dave Burns will be riding the Skycoaster to raise money for charity

Fundraiser Dave Burns will be riding the Skycoaster to raise money for charity

A veteran disabled fund-raiser is to finally call time on half-a-century of charity work on Thursday with a hair-raising ride on Blackpool’s South Pier Skycoaster adrenaline ride.

Wheelchair athlete Dave Burns will celebrate his 73rd birthday by being hoisted 120ft in the air before plummeting down to earth on a cable.

The stunt, at 1.30pm, marks the end of decades of fund-raising from Dave, of Paddock Drive, Marton.

He has raised more than £750,000 for good causes over the years.

The challenge was originally due to go ahead a fortnight ago, but the tail end of Hurricane Bertha and the storms she brought put paid to Dave’s plans. Charity Supporting Our Brave will be the beneficiaries of his last fund-raising endeavour.
