TWO women were taken to hospital after a three-car pile-up in Blackpool.

Preston New Road was blocked at rush hour last night after a Ford Focus, Peugeot 207 and a Honda Civic collided at the junction of Barclay Avenue.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene, as large tailbacks began to form in the area.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We were called to the scene at 5.35pm after a three-vehicle collision. The injured people, both women, were described by officers as walking wounded.

“They were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, one with minor injuries the other with shock.

“Preston New Road was blocked for almost an hour while both the police, fire service and ambulance crews dealt with the incident.”

Preston New Road was cleared at 6.30pm.
