TV dress could be your bride and joy

IT was one of Soapland's most anticipated weddings.

When Coronation Street favourite Ashley Peacock married fiance Claire on Christmas Day 2004, thousands watched the romantic ceremony.

Her wedding dress was the envy of brides-to-be across the country.

And now some lucky Fylde fundraiser could own the fabulous gown.

The outfit will be auctioned off during the a charity variety show hosted by Cannon and Ball at Lowther Pavilion tomorrow evening.

Yvonne Ball, wife of TV comedy legend Bobby Ball, said: "The makers of Coronation Street very kindly agreed to donate the dress so that we could auction it off to raise money.

"We have the certificate of authenticity to go with it and everything.

"It's a unique, beautiful item.

"It has been hanging in a fashion shop window in Lytham for the past few weeks and there has been a lot of interest.

"We'll now put it up for auction during tomorrow's show and hopefully raise a lot of money for what's a very worthy cause.

"We have put a reserve price on it and if that isn't met then we'll put it on eBay to try to raise as much money as possible."

Janet Walker – whose husband Phil will appear in the show – has been displaying the famous dress in her fashion shop Rococo on Clifton Street, Lytham.

The variety show and auction are being held to raise money to send an 11-strong group of women and young people to Vietnam to renovate orphanages.

It will be their second visit in two years to paint the orphanages, a novelty for the children who live there who have never seen bright colours before.

Bobby's grandson, 14-year-old Lytham St Annes High School pupil Christian O'Sullivan, will join the group in Asia.

The volunteers are from the Lytham Christian Centre which Bobby attends – he became a born-again Christian in 1984.

Bobby said: "The response has been terrific.

"It's such a good cause and people have been very keen to get involved. I just hope we make a lot of money from the sale of the dress."

The show will see 62-year-old Bobby joined on stage by his comedy partner of 42 years, Tommy Cannon.

The former I'm A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here stars will be joined on stage by showbiz friends, Johnnie Casson, Phil Walker, Amanda Jackson and Little Albert.
