This young trio got on their bikes to raise money to help local children.
Will Stover, from Fleetwood, and his friends Lucy Knowles, 22, from Garstang and Francesca Hughes, 21, from Esprick, decided to get in the saddle to cycle from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, in aid of Pear Tree Specialist School in Kirkham.
The team, all former Kirkham Grammar pupils, are aiming for 80 to 90 miles a day and set off on Sunday from Blackpool, and hope to arrive in Paris on Saturday or Sunday.
They asked the Goal-den Girls over 50s running club to come and officially set them on their way.
Tricia Ellis, from the Goal-den Girls, which first started as a challenge to run a marathon in 2012 but have kept going and kept fundraising for local charities, said: “We were delighted to come along and set them off. We are happy to support anybody doing anything physical, any sort of exercise-based challenge, especially when it is for a good cause.”
Will, 23, who has taken part in Ironman triathlons, said: “I’ve always wanted to do a Tower to Tower ride.
“It was Francesca’s idea really, she wanted to do it and she suggested raising money for Pear Tree School. I work at Kirkham Baths, next to Pear Tree School and the children often come to swim.
“So I get to see first-hand the children who will benefit. Pear Tree School does some amazing work.
“I’m about to start my PGCE too to train to become a teacher, so feel this is a cause close to my heart.
“We’ve all done quite a bit of cycling, Lucy has previously ridden from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
“My dad is the support, following us in a car and will drive us back.
